How to strip silver plating from pewter knife rests?

I have a set of Knife Rests that are made of pewter but someone at some time has had them silver or electroplated which is coming off. Is there a chemical that will finish the job quickly and get these articles back to the original pewter?

Try electrolytic cleaning in 5% silver nitrate solution (slightly acidified with a few drops of nitric acid) -object= anode, cathode = piece of silver,or stainless steel.Hope it helps and good luck!
