The following book is one of "the book" for anodising:

The Surface Treatment and Finishing of Aluminum and Its Alloys, by PG Sheasby, R Pinner

This book is quite expensive. Instead, if you have access to electronic journals you could check the following papers and follow any interesting reference they have.

Thin solid films, Vol. 123, 1985, 127 (it is included in the book mentioned above)

Up to now, there were several mechanism to explain the porous film formation, which at some point they contradisted either theory or experimental data. Very recent work finally shows the mechanism of porous film formation. You can get an insight in the following publications (and more information in the references from these papers)

A Tracer Study of Porous Anodic Alumina
Electrochem. Solid-State Lett., Volume 9, Issue 11, pp. B47-B51 (2006)
P. Skeldon, G. E. Thompson, S. J. Garcia-Vergara, L. Iglesias-Rubianes, and C. E. Blanco-Pinzon

Compositional Evidence for Flow in Anodic Films on Aluminum under High Electric Fields
J. Electrochem. Soc., Volume 154, Issue 9, pp. C540-C545 (2007)
S. J. Garcia-Vergara, P. Skeldon, G. E. Thompson, T. Hashimoto,and H. Habazaki

I hope this can be of help
