Is there a process for gold plating removal

I have a watch that is steel with 20m gold plate that is wearing off I want to remove the plating completely is there a special way to do it?.

I've never seen a steel watch and doubt that yours is steel, Charles. Stainless steel, possibly. I know you said you want to remove the gold, but that doesn't really explain what you are trying to do. Recover the gold before disposing of the watch? Make the watch more attractive to your mind? It will rust if you remove the plating. You can remove the gold easily with fine sandpaper without getting involved with dangerous chemicals. letter 14022 offers further detail. Good luck.
