How to brass plate
I have acquired an Old Italian espresso maker that has brass plated parts. Much of the brass layer has been removed by oxidation and neglect. Does anyone have a recipe for re plating the brass? I'm a biologist and have access to chemicals for such experiment.
Thank you,

Brass plating is an industrial science that employs cyanide-based chemistry, and which merits hands-on training, Mark. You can get the formulas from some readily accessible books like the
Metal Finishing Guidebook, but obtaining the chemicals is not the gist of the problem.
Also, if it was bright brass, it probably has an underlayment of nickel plating that must be restored first. I suggest that you send it to a plating shop where people with as much experience in plating as you have in biology will be able to apply that experience towards getting the finish you want. Good luck.
