Red filter coating for "Nixie Tube" & incandescent light bulbs

Q. I am looking for help finding or making a suitable coating for low wattage incandescent lamps and - more importantly - a low power neon lamp known as a nixie tube. There are sources for nixie tubes at reasonable prices but little if any information on the red filter coating that used to be applied to nixie tubes to improve the contrast of the digits being displayed. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks.

A. Try a hobby supply store for glass staining paint [affil links]. I used some on dash illumination bulbs in my car one time. It will give you color but will reduce the intensity of the bulb some. Hope this helps.
