How do we dissolve the copper coating on steel wire

I am producing copper coated steel wire. I want to determine the weight of copper coating on the surface of steel wire. Can somebody suggest a solution which dissolves only copper leaving the steel wire intact?

Rakesh,
Wouldn't it be easier to weigh the wire before and after plating to get your copper weight? You could also measure the copper plating thickness on a given amount of wire and calculate from there (grams/sq").
If you have to strip the copper from steel 500g/l chromic acid and 50g/l sulfuric acid at room temp should be sufficient.
