Post Peening Application to rust proof the mushroom head of the peen
Hello all, I'm working on a design solution for a project. The question came up, we have a zinc-nickel plated pin that is being cold headed at the end to create the peen. This peen is cold work thus, loosing the plating of the material as it gets mushroomed down to peen in the components. Is there a Post process that can rust proof or corrosion protect the peen head? I'm being asked to find a low cost, automated process.
Thanks all!

Hello, Jason. If I designed an egg packaging machine which put a crack into some of the eggs, finding a carton that protects cracked eggs well enough that they can be shipped and sold still might not be the ideal solution to the problem :-)
So, is there any chance of plating the pin after peening? (I'm not sure quite what you are peening to what, and whether this has any practicality). Is it a small pin that could possibly be stainless steel? I think a
cold galvanizing compound Cold Galvanizing Compound / Zinc Rich Paint might be very economical and easy to automate but it's probably not quite the ideal solution. Good luck.
