Plastic Chrome Surface Rusting

Hi, I am Rajesh working with M & M automobile company with quality dept.
I have below query on the emblems getting rusty / stained.
When the plastic chrome plated emblems are exported fixed on the vehicles through the sea transport the emblems gets red rust / stains on its surface.

Request to suggest what should I checked in process at supplier end and what could lead to cause of such problem.

I can understand a hundred ways in which a copper-nickel-chrome plated plastic emblem can fail to meet expectations. But I can't understand how something that contains nothing ferrous can possibly generate red rust. Somebody help me too!

I found this reply in another question(44207).

"Some shops are now using a nickel/steel mixture to help abate the cost of nickel."

This might be the reason why the parts get red rust.
