How do I restore the oil rubbed bronze color (black) on cabinet handles

My headline says it all: the cabinet knobs and pulls are bronze with the black oil rubbed finish. On the more used pulls, the finish has "rubbed off" and those pulls are more gold toned rather than black. I would like to restore dark the finish.

Rub them with boiled linseed oil this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] (very sparingly, use oily rag,any other edible oil or fat can be used too, linseed is best for copper and its alloys),then heat it to 300-400 ° C (with hot air gun). Repeat if needed. Hope it helps and good luck!
