Looking for Carbon Steel finish to knock your socks off

I am a hobbyist looking to refinish a golf putter. I know there are several threads on this wonderful site about specific treatments such as gun blueing, black oxide, etc. I am looking for suggestions for a non glare, durable finish that is something different than the normal treatments mentioned above. Color is not really a concern as much as the non glare factor. I am looking to make this a real one of a kind item that I will be using daily. Any suggestions would be welcome. It is made of soft carbon steel and would rather stay away from thick plating as it may alter the feel and sound (a big part of feel) of the putter.

Try tannic acid this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] finish-dark grey to black colour-simply immerse your object(grease and oxide free)in solution(or paint it on).20 gm tannic acid this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] /15 ml phosphoric acid/150 ml alcohol/850 ml water = simple do it yourself rust converter this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] . You must wax or lacquer it (baked 20% shellac coating is best/30min., 150 °C).Hope it helps and good luck!
