Painting over zinc nickel chromate coating

We currently have carbon steel components that get a zinc nickel chromate coating and after assembly, get an epoxy paint. The machines are then used in a saltwater environment. We are examining our corrosion protection as these machines were not originally designed for sub-sea use. The machines get pretty beat up and I would like to know what some better alternatives may be for a durable corrosion resistant coating.

Dear Mr Weinberg.

You can use several Topcoats from Dupont or Whitford designed for Marine applications over the Zinc Nickel.
