Restore/repair black porcelain sink finish
Q. We have a black kitchen sink that is scratched on the bottom. Is there a way to coat the sink.

A. Hi. Dan I don't have a really good idea for you because the finish on black sinks is usually not paint or powder coating, but porcelain ceramic -- a finish which is more like molten glass. There is appliance touch-up enamel ⇦ this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] which will make the scratch less obvious. But that's probably about all you can do short of sending it out for re-porcelaining, which is surely an expensive proposition.

Q. THANK YOU MY HUSBAND AND I ARE RETIRED WE PURCHASED A KOHLER DOUBLE BLACK SINK 8 YEARS AGO .. IT WAS A VERY GOOD ONE TO GO IN AN ANTIQUE TABLE CENTER ISLAND -- THE PORCELAIN FINISH IS WORN OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE SINK - WE HAVE CALLED THE AREA COMPANY THAT RESTORES TUB AND TILES. HE SUGGESTED THAT WE BUY ANOTHER SINK AS BLACK WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT TO HOLD A GLAZE -- KOHLER SENT US A KOHLER CLEANER AND SUGGESTED WE USE A TENNIS BALL TO RUB THE SINK -- CAN YOU SUGGEST A PRODUCT AND A PROCEDURE THAT WILL RESTORE THE BLACK GLAZE? THANK YOU

A. I visited Beaufort 3 weeks ago, Patricia -- what an impressive, beautiful old town you folks maintain. Unfortunately, if you got suggestions both from the manufacturer and from the local sink restoration expert, we're not very likely to be able to improve upon them.
