Tackling corrosion in fertiliser gas scrubber units
Hi,
I am a mechanical engineer in NPK fertiliser unit. Our Gas Scrubber and ammonia
⇦ this on
eBay or
Amazon [affil links] scrubber system is susceptible to frequent leakages in the shell and pipe areas. Our current scrubber is SS316L make and we have unsuccessfully tried rubber linings also in the past to tackle this problem.
Can anyone suggest options/ alternatives in this area. Our Chloride levels are < 10000 ppm with average liquor temperature of 75 °C
Thanks & regards

Hi Dibyendu,
Have tried tried plastics ?
Maybe a PVDF coating would work. This is, as you probably know, a quasi fluorocarbon BUT on the negative side, it's not happy at all with high pH but super in acids.
Then there are the weldable fluorocarbons which, with a fiberglass backing, a so-called dual laminate, would be far superior to 3l6L or any Ni.Cr alloy.
There are also mist eliminator blades available in PVC, PVDF and BUT also in PP ... good for l2 micron capture if made correctly.
I have successfully replaced mass transfer scrubbers but those were in PVC which is nbg due to your temperature ...
