Remove electroless Ni from gold
2007
Hello,
We run a chemistry experiment in our first year chemistry class involving electroless nickel (a commercial P based formulation). One of our students was careless enough to drop his wedding ring into the bath and when we retrieved it, it had a very nice layer of NiP. I don't suppose there is any way we can selectively remove the NiP? We would appreciate any help,
Andy.

Try 50% nitric acid with proper safety precautions. Remove every 5 min or so , rinse, wipe off the black smut and check the ring for chemical attack. Re dip it again as required.
