Converting RA to UIN
I have a vendor who has a surface requirement of 50 micron max, he is reporting his results in 0.118 UIN. I need to report this to my customer in microns. They do not understand UIN?

Tracy,
Don't mind admitting that I am not that up on surface roughness measurements but something doesn't look right with your figures (or is it me just being a bit thick).
When you say 50 micron finish do you mean 50 microinches? 50 micrometer finish would be rougher than a badgers behind!
I would guess that µin actually stands for microinch (U for micro, IN for inch), if it is then you have something heading toward a mirror finish.
