Piping for small point of use DI water station
2007
We are looking to provide DI water to a work station at the rate of 0.5 GPM. What materials can we use to take the water from the DI resin tank to the DI water heater (EEMAX, 130F) and out to the workstation?
I have done some research and it seems that we can use stainless steel or PVDF. Are there other options? Is there a flexible tubing that we could use? The PVDF materials seem to be extremely expensive. Stainless steel and PVDF does not provide the flexibility of being able to move the tool around the work station once attached. At most we would need to run 5 feet of piping from the resin tank to the workstation.
Thanks.

Hi Alex,
Going by memory, ordinary Sch. 80 PVC is OK at l0% of its working pressure at 130 °F ...BUT.... CPVC would give a much higher safety factor ... and PVDF, as you say, is bloody expensive.
To get some flexibility, there's a nylon reinforced clear vinyl tubing ... you'd have to use, I think, insert fittings... that (but I don't have the data at hand) should also be OK at 150 °F.

Did some more research on this site. Seems like some people are using CPVC. This is a material we could use as well?
Thanks.

Certainly. Just be careful with the amount of glue that you use. If you are sloppy, you will have glue solvent in your water for days or weeks.

Hi again Alex,
What James Watt says is right ... but if you go to the first page of finishing.com, you'll see on the bottom r.h. side METAL FINISHING BOOKS and just below that LIBRARY.
Hit LIBRARY. Then zoom down to PLANTS AND PROCESS ENGINEERING. The last item is called HAVING A LEAK ON THE JOB.
This is all about how to and how NOT to join PVC, ie. CPVC Piping. Use that and become a master plumber overnight.
By the way, the solvent, THF, is not miscible with H20.
