First of two simultaneous responses --
You will lose about 1/2 the anodize thickness per side when you strip. If you have a 0.001 thickness per side , you will lose half of that on each side or a minimum of 0.001 on an OD. It requires a lot of tender loving care to not lose more than that if the anodize has absorbed some oil or grease or paint or?

A Chromic Acid/Nitric Acid/DI water mixture heated to approx. 175F does this quite well, with minimum attack on the substrate. It's nasty stuff though, and obviously a carcinogen. If interested in pursuing, reply and I'll look up the ratios for you. You also may able to buy a proprietary premade mixture.

I was mistaken in my response. Robert is correct when he says phosphoric acid, not nitric acid, as I said.
