Remove Nikasil Plating

As the subject says, I'd like to know the process for removing Nikasil plating from motorcycle cylinders. I heard a rumour that nitric acid was the weapon of choice, but I'd like confirmation on that.

Any help that anyone can give is gratefully received.

If your substrate metal is aluminum, nitric acid will do the job w/o much harm to your parts. Nitric is a harmful and obnoxious acid and cannot be used for ferrous or copper substrates so, it is not commonly used. There are proprietary formulations that work better and are more versatile. Check the advertising in this site or use your browser and search for strippers EN.
