Electroplating cupronickel
I work selling fresh water intakes. A client has severe algae growth. We manufacture and sell tilted wedge-wire screens (a bit difficult to describe). The screens have a specific profile that cuts into flowing water. We have gotten our screens flame coated with cupronickel (I believe it is 90/30 copper/nickel). The problem with flame coating is that our wedge wire shape can only have up to 0.008" coating thickness before the shape is too much changed. The flame coating is all done manually and is too dependent on operator skill. My thoughts are that electroplating (like we sometimes do with hard chrome) would result in a smooth predictable finish.
Does anyone know of a facility that I should contact? [Ed. note: our supporting advertisers will reply in private regarding the commercial aspects of the posting.]
Or any suggestions for a durable coating that is as resistant to tenacious plant growth.
The other issue is durable icephobic coatings. Any info is helpful.
Thanks very much

What is your substrate and current expected life and how would you describe your main problem wear, corrosion, foreign matter build-up? Electroless nickel plates quite smooth and very uniform. It is corrosion resistant and hard (it can be further hardened by a low temp bake). It is not dependent on handcraft skills. On the other hand, it is brittle and more expensive than conventional plating, specially if you specify a thickness above 2 or more mils.

Electropolished T 316 stainless screens have been found to work well in an application like that.
