Zinc Electrowinning
2006
Friends,
I am working in on of the plants producing zinc through hydrometallurgical route. I am interested to know how it is possible to have lead sulphate coating on lead anode during the electrowinning of zinc from purified zinc sulphate solution and which way this can be prevented? Does Acidity of cell feed has any role in this regard? Secondly to what extent it is favourable to have a coating of PbO2 on Lead Anode? Thirdly what may be the acceptable rate of Lead Anode Corrosion?

Friends,
I am working in a Zinc Smelter in India and am doing a Six Sigma Project to have improvement in Cell House Rating i.e. increase in tonnage of Zinc deposited on Aluminum Cathode per MW of Power Consumption.
We are experiencing very high rate of Corrosion of Lead anode as lead equivalent to 750 Kgs is appearing in anode mud on daily basis.
I am interested to know whether lower or higher anode potential is required to prevent corrosion of Lead Anode and how it can be achieved? Is it true that lower anode potential will decompose lead dioxide layer?
Regards.

Dear friends,
I am working in a zinc smelter vizag as process engineer in cell house, in our plant we are having 47 cascades,in each cascade having ten cell in that 30 (Al)cathodes,31(lead)anodes in this system we are facing a problem of heigh cell voltages,in each cell voltage is maintained 3.45V with a rectifier capacity of 820V in each circuit with this heigh voltages we are facing low power rating.
To overcome this problem if any suggestion please contact me.
