How do you take the finish off an old engraved silver trumpet?

Just trying to restore a 1880 cornet. I thought it was brass, but it is silver. Could I use a liquid stripper? Or a heat gun this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] ?
Any suggestions?

Try 300 gm sodium thiosulphate this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] solution(dissolve it in 1 lit water). Precipitated chalk this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] mixed with water and few drops of ammonia this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] can be used too. Hope it helps and good luck!
