Vacuum metallizing and lacquering/top coating tequila bottle overcap

2006

I've found several answers to my finishing questions by using your forum, which pops up often in a Google search. Your members are very helpful!

We're launching a fantastic new tequila with a modern design; if any of you are tequila aficionados, I'd love to get your feedback on our product.

We use injection molding to manufacture our ABS-plastic stopper tops, 50 ml overcaps, and 750 ml overcaps. All surfaces are smooth, except for the 750 ml overcaps, which are lightly patterned with a small wood-grain sort of look. Then we vacuum metallize to apply a chrome-type aluminum finish in Silver, Gold (Reposado), and Blue (Anejo). Our metallizer can't accommodate our production schedule, so I'm looking for some help there. I have close to a million parts that I need metallized at approx. 15K per day.

Also, I'm looking for some advice on a top coat. We're using UV on the two smaller pieces. We've discussed using a polyester coat on the big overcap, but I understand it's somewhat costly. We think that our current metallizer is using a lacquer, which may be more economical, but I have to determine our specs. Any advice on this?

Thanks so much for your help and for your great site.
