Electric Arc Spraying Compatibility of Stainless Steel on Aluminum
I am wanting to spray stainless steel on an aluminum piston. The piston is used in a natural gas gathering environment. I am concerned with bonding of the metals and galvanic reaction.

In metal spraying, the bond strength depends partly on cleanness but mostly on mechanical factors which are related to surface roughness, anchor pattern, impact energy and surface deformation. There are proven methods to maximize adhesion between those two metals. The sprayed SS must be sealed with a compatible sealant to prevent corrosion.
