Stripping Chrome from Plastic Car Parts

What nasty chemical or process can I use to de-plate plastic chrome? You know, headlight bezels, armrests, dashboards, etc.

First, hydrochloric acid to strip chrome, then nitric acid to strip nickel underplate (and also copper if present). Both need to be used and disposed according to OSHA and EPA regulations.

You can use hydrochloric acid to strip the chrome. But, if you use Nitric to strip nickel and copper, you may end up with a pretty rugged looking part. There are much better ways to strip plastic. Ask your chemical supplier for a better way, if he doesn't know call me.
