You'll find some introductory and general material in the Metal Finishing Guidebook, Tim. Searching expired patents, which is free & fast today, will offer additional specifics.
But asking for a "successful" formulation for a commercial product is rather like asking for the formulation for Coca-Cola or the shop drawings for a Lexus; people sell their formulations as proprietary trade secrets to recoup their research investment. Good luck.
