Selenium electroplating
I am a scientist and work on photoactive materials. I am interested in any information concerning the electroplating of Selenium.
Thanks

There is some references to Selenium Plating in Modern Electroplating and also a paper by George Dubpernell in the 1946 AES (AESF) Proceeding of American Electroplating Soc.

A reference is found in Principles of Electroplating and Electroforming, Blum and Hogaboom, 1949 McGraw-Hill discusses the amphoteric nature of Selenium. 2N Sulfuric Acid @ 98 g/l containing selenous acid was electrolyzed to form a deposit of metallic selenium. Deposition would not sustain to produce an appreciable thickness. By doping the bath with copper ions, all the selenium codeposits with the copper.
They also reference hot dipping, like a galvanizing as a method of producing photovoltaic cells. They are not optimistic about development of a commercial plating process.
