What aluminum finish on 70s Coke machine?
I am trying to figure out what finish is on my aluminium parts. I thought it was anodized.I tried oven cleaner ⇦ this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] nothing I tried paint thinner nothing. The aluminum parts are from a 70's model Coke machine. I don't know if it could be some sort of metal plating.

Try with simple conductivity test- anodized surfaces are nonconductive(you need some wire ,battery and small electric bulb)! Good luck!

We processed the typical Coke machine aluminum (alloy 5000 series)in the following manner.
1. Mild alkaline clean to remove light oils.
2. Rinse
3. Alcoa Hot R-2 Bright dip (Nitric/Phosphoric Acid) to a high lustrous finish.
4. Sulfuric Acid Anodize at 12 volts for 12 minutes
5. Seal in Hot DI water
6. Dry
This process should NEVER be attempted by anyone who not well experienced in the field of metal finishing!
