Cloudy/Milky Bright Nickel Plating Problem

Q. I have received parts from the Plating shop that have a "Haze" on them. The plating appears to be burnt. I would like to know if I can use a Nitric acid solution to brighten them up.
I do not have time to return the parts for re-plating.

Thanks,
Dave

A. You may not have time to have them replated, but what if your customer rejects them for cosmetic reasons?
There are a number of things that can cause haze other than burning and you did not say what type of nickel plate that was used. You might try polishing them.

A. David,

I think you might be able to polish the nickel if the "haze" isn't too awful bad. A good nickel chrome shop could probably do it for you. I have polished out some pretty nasty looking nickel. Try one and if the results aren't to your standards you will have to replate.

Good Luck

(Make sure your polisher knows what they are doing or the results will be worse than the haze)
