Mirror Finishing on Low Carbon Mild Steel Galvanized Wire
2006
We are manufacturer of hangers for garment industry.
Recently we have seen a sample of hanger manufactured by other company.
The base material is mild steel and it's low carbon (17%), the wire is then galvanized
(80gm/mm2). The said wire has mirror finish.
Can you please advice us how to obtain such shiny finishing.
Your reply will help us.

Hi, Sameer. 80 gm/mm2 is impossibly thick, so I'll assume this is a typo, and you mean 80 gm/m2 ? At a density for zinc of 7.14 g/cm3, this means a volume of about 11.2 cm3/m2, or a thickness of .00112 cm, or 4 to 5 ten thousandths of an inch.
This is within the thickness range of zinc plating, so I'd tend to believe the hangers were bright acid zinc plated rather than hot dip galvanized. Good luck.
