Electroplating rhodium on silver plate
This project began because I saw someone on a TV morning show, give a rhodium bath to jewelry to make it look new. It seemed so easy. I ordered a rhodium kit (rhodium plating solution and distilled water) - cost was $250.00. Received that and then found out that I need an electroplating rectifier (10v 25 amp). I now have a used rectifier, stainless steel anode, a wire with alligator clip to connect to anode, a platinized titanium anode, 2 wires with alligator clip, one connects to PT anode, the other to jewelry (cost was $300.00). Now that I have all of the equipment that I need I am nervous about proceeding. Would like to have tutoring and guidance, the first time that I do the electroplating. Since I am in Ocean Grove NJ and you are in Brick NJ I would like to know if you would be willing to help me. I am a retired math teacher and this is to become my newest hobby if I can get started. Thanks,

Hello, Rita. You are most welcome (as is anyone else) to visit finishing.com. We have many books on plating and precious metals, and decades of journal articles. We will set you up with a desk, computer, copy machine and whatever you need for your research. But we discourage hobby plating rather than encouraging it, so we do not want to tutor people on it. Also, electroplating generates hazardous wastes; although this situation is utterly de minimus (a flea upon a flea upon a flea), sorry but we cannot have any plating solutions on our premises.
