Need equipment to test plating thickness

I am researching options for a small plating shop that is growing but not able to purchase anything as expensive as x-ray fluorescence. Is there a good reliable hand held magnetic or other option that someone would recommend?
They are barrel plating small Zinc shells for electronic connectors.
