Swimming pool finishing: Resistance of powder coating to Chloro

Hello there

I'm a trainee in the powder coating industry; lately a client required information about polyester and epoxy resistance to cloro... The client wants to revest swimming pool equipment.

.. do you have any idea of polyester and epoxy resistance to cloro?

best regards,

Polyester has poor chemical resistance and should not be used for this application.

Epoxy has much better resistance, but has poor UV resistance. It might be suitable, but if the swimming pool is in sunlight then not.

Dependent on the chlorine concentration even epoxy might not be suitable.

What is the substrate? If steel then epoxy powdercoating will not be enough to stop corrosion, and the steel should be galvanized first.
Then you'll have the problem of adhesion of the powder unless you use a competent pretreatment.

Hybrid powders are formulated to tackle your problem Alex, talk to a(your) powder supplier about formulations for this application. Hybrids have characteristics of both poly and epoxy paints.
