Corrosion and wear resistance
Hi I am from South Africa and manufacture parts for car engines. For instance I would like to know what type of plating would be of high wear resistance preferably not chrome and can be used on a cam belt pulley that is made from cast iron where the belt is running on
(most wear) and mild steel where it bolts onto the camshaft (no wear). If such plating exist where can I find more info on the specific plating chemical solutions and processes.
Would appreciate your help.
Thanks

Chrome plating, titanium nitriding, and similar hard surface treatments are usually done on hardened materials, Flip. There are exceptions, but heat treatment and/or material selection for hardness are usually the first line of defense against wear. Putting a thin hard plating on a soft material usually isn't very effective. If you want a single lead to look into as a first step, I'd say try salt bath nitriding. Regards,
