Baking of Electrodeposited Paint Film
2006
We are Cathodic Electrodeposition Coating job coaters. We were using High Speed Diesel oil as fuel for our paint baking oven using indirect heating. We have now started using Liquefied Petroleum Gas as fuel using direct heating method ( no Heat Exchanger). We are ending up with a finish with very much lower Gloss levels than what we used to get with the indirect heating method.
We would like to know whether it is possible to get the same gloss levels with the direct heating method? Do we have to use any filters on the flue gas outlets?
Please clarify.

Dear Sir,
Once you shift to direct heating there is little you can do for temperature control. In all probability your parts are getting overheated, as E-coat will tend to become dull if the coating temperature is say 200 Degrees C.
You may have to switch to indirect heating and keep the curing temperature within 170-180 degrees C only.
