Corrosion in electrolytic capacitors.

I'm a Swedish chemistry student and I have a couple of questions about electrolytic capacitors. I¥m currently working with a project for a capacitor company here in Sweden. They have problems with corrosion on the anodic foil in their high voltage (500 V) capacitors. Phosphoric acid and ethylene glycol is used among other "parts" in the electrolyte. Further investigations has shown that there in some cases also occurs sparks through the oxide layer. Well, if someone have some tips about this topic, please let me know.

Stefan, It is difficult to assess the problem without more information. Specifically, what are the anodic foils made out of? What is the cathode material?

The evidence of sparks could indicate possibility of excessive charge on the surface that has no place to go during processing.
