Plating Thickness

2006

We are doing plating on plastics. The plating thickness on the job that is anode facing is different from that is not anode facing.the difference is more than half..
is it the property of electroplating?
any solution for this?

This is pretty basic stuff, Manish; surely there are knowledgable people within your shop who can not only explain this to you but demonstrate it hands-on with your Hull Cell. The plating thickness is essentially proportional to current flow per Faraday's Law of Electrolysis. And the current is dependent on the distance from the anode to the point of interest because of the resistance, as covered by Ohm's Law.

In ABS plating, what are the plating thicknesses that are achieved:

1) In copper with 20 degree Be' and proper anode area.
2) In Nickel with 20 degree Be' and proper anode area.

Also what are the international standards that are maintained in copper and nickel tanks for ABS plating .

Please refer any book or journal for modern plating plants.

Thank you.

Thickness is depends on current & time so see that how much you are giving per square foot.

Book for plating is The Canning Handbook [on eBay, Amazon, AbeBooks affil links]: Surface Finishing Technology, Integrated Design.

Dear Friend,
In ABS Plating we achieved following thickness,
For Copper - 5 to 40 micron.
for Nickel - 5 to 20 micron.
As per your copper and nickel 20 degree Be' you pass the anode are i.e. for copper - 20 to 40 amp/sq.feet and for Nickel - 20 to 35 amp/sq.feet.
