Durable black finish for 18/8 Stainless parts

We currently import some 18/8 stainless steel parts from Europe, and one of our customers is asking for their parts in black. Unfortunately these have a fine pitch thread on one end that would not easily be masked, so we need a very thin finish, but I understand black oxide will not work on this material. The finished parts do not directly see wear or abrasion, but are exposed in the final assembly so we need reasonable durability of the coating.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Try black chrome plating(or black nickel). Good luck and hope it helps!

For my nickel, anything with fine threads should not be plated as you will have fit problems. There are black oxide processes for SS. Talk to a few vendors about your needs. You might consider a thinned black wax for a really sharp looking (initial) finish.

We can color your stainless electrochemically without increasing the size of your threads. Please feel free to contact me to discuss

Black cold patinas for steel should work well here without losing critical spacing for threads. Good luck
