Silver testing supplies
2006
I'm new to this so please be kind!
I've got some metal I believe is silver and want to test it, but I'm not sure where to get the supplies, i.e., potassium dichromate and nitric acid.
Any help would be appreciated
Hi Allen,
You can get the chemicals in small amounts from a laboratory supply house in your area, if they are willing to sell to the general public. Most supply houses have a minimum order amount, so it may be cheaper bringing the metal to a jeweler for testing. Good Luck!

Hi, Allen. Potassium Dichromate [affil links] is a photographic supply, so it's reasonably available.
Nitric acid is available online, but please remember that this is a powerful industrial chemical only to be used by trained personnel with full protective gear. What might be more practical would be precious metal "testing needles" or "test kits" .
Good luck.
