Protection needed for steel pinion in plastic rack
We have a steel pinion (black oxide finish) accidentally produced in marine product. It drives a plastic rack to do a light duty job tilting a light. It should be stainless steel but we are stuck in the short term. Is there a "best" spray coating I can use to give best protection against rust in a marine environment?

With or without oil or wax of any type I think this will prove completely unsatisfactory. I think Plan B should be to strip and electroless nickel plate them.

Thanks for the advice. However I do not have the option to plate. For this batch the pinion is on the gear drive and already assembled into the product. It is a fix I am looking for. I am looking for the "best" spray on product. I am limited to this kind of fix right now.
