Is it possible to strip polished brass, and if so what will be underneath

I have polished brass bathroom fixtures, would like to end up with a silver color either nickel, chrome, or stainless steel, either by stripping or if it's possible to chemically resurface the metal. It's the shower surround, light fixtures, hinges and towel bars. Have replaced the faucets already. I've searched this site, and found info on how to change the shade of brass, not to switch to a different color. Any information, or guidance will be appreciated.

Hello Brandi. Brass is a yellow metal and it cannot be tinted to a white color like silver or chrome, but it can certainly be electroplated with either. Chrome would certainly be more durable. But electroplating is not do-it-yourself, you would have to send the parts to a plating shop. And while this is certainly doable for high end solid brass components, if they are inexpensive brass plated items it will prove more economical to replace them.
