Ni-W alloy plating as substitute for chrome?
Q. I would like to know about the current status of the technology of Nickel-Tungsten alloy plating - The last time I've heard about it was back in 1996, at that time the facts were pretty convincing regarding the deposit characteristics as being a possible candidate for Hard Chrome plating substitute. Would like to hear about it please.
Thanks

A. There has been a couple of papers presented at various conferences about this coating that list properties of this coating. Ni/W coating had about 5-10 times more wear with the Taber Abrasive test. Also the plating rate was much lower than chromium. If you would like more information please feel free to contact me.
