Mechanical Zinc

-----

Dear All,

Is there any specialist can explain for me: What is Mechanical Zinc and what's the advantage and disadvantage of it? could you tell me the basic process? Thanks!

Please phrase your question in terms of what you and your company do, and why this process might potentially be of interest to you, Lily. Advantages compared to what alternative process? Disadvantages compared to what alternative finish?

In mechanical plating, the parts you wish to plate are rotated in a burnishing barrel along with some zinc powder and small glass beads. The weight of a part, focused on a small diameter glass bead, causes a very high pressure at the contact point, which is sufficient to smash the zinc powder onto the part. It produces a zinc plating thickness intermediate between zinc electroplating and hot dip galvanizing without introducing hydrogen embrittlement.
