How to do bright aluminum anodizingg

Thread 399/72

I'm looking for a type of anodizing with very high corrosion resistance (like plasma anodizing) and that does not influence the color and the gloss of bright aluminum.

Any suggestion?

There is a bright anodizing process that is very nasty, but will leave you with both the corrosion resistance of type II anodizing, and a nice bright finish.

It's called Bright anodizing and there are hundreds of posts on this site about it. Use the on-site search engine and search for "bright anodizing" and you will receive a plethora of information about what you ask.

Hi. Yes, "bright dipping" involves putting the aluminum into a mixture of nitric and phosphoric acid at about 100 °C. It is so corrosive that most people use double walled 316L stainless steel tanks. The fumes from this tank and the rinse following it are mustard color NOx gases that require an enclosed "garage style" exhaust ventilation system rather than lip style exhaust hoods. It is strong and scary stuff, so read well, and visit at least one plant that uses it before contemplating installing it. Good luck.
