RoHS / WEEE compliant replacement for black e-coat of aluminum

-----
2006

We currently have a black e-coated cast aluminum part. We need the component to be RoHS and WEEE compliant.

Black anodize is our next choice, but we prefer the advantages of e-coat: uniform coloration, cleans the metal of thread cutting oils, no material build-up in threads, protection against oxidation, acts as protection against electrolysis, and acts as surface preparation for powder coat which additionally provides a thermal barrier.

What replacement/alternative RoHS /WEEE compliant processes are there that provide the advantages of e-coat and are equivalent to or better than current process cost? The part is 3 inch by 0.8 inch by 2 inch and weighs about 1 ounce.

I think I do not understand your problem. For years there is lead free e-coat in the market, so why do you think it is cannot comply with the RoHS directive?
