Oxidation of copper

OK I'm making frames out of 25 gauge copper sheeting for a school project. I want it to oxidize and turn a little green in spots. I can go that but how do I get it to stop after I have it at the desired oxidation?

Your almost there. Just rinse the desired patina finish in fresh water and let dry. Freeze patina with a coat of Incralac this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] or similar lacquer finish.

After heat treating a copper object to bring out the blue, gold and reds, what would be a treatment for this object to keep the beautiful color permanent?
