Protecting steel pipes from exhaust fumes

I have a steel pipe that is to be installed in a mine shaft for exhaust gasses, the gasses will condensate and form a mild acid, this will cause corrosion. What is the cheapest method of protection, I know I can paint it but the cost is tremendous.

thanks

Hi Werner,

Why, in the first place, are you even considering steel?

Why not ordinary Polyethylene? Many mine ventilation systems have been using Pe for donkey's years.

But then I'm biased ... 40 odd years in the corrosion resistant plastics.
