Lightening metal car parts

Lighten metal bumpers and bumper supports to at least 50% of present weight. Bumpers are 1/8 thick, hangers are 3/16.

Personally, I think this idea of acid dipping car parts to lighten them by half is urban legend, Thomas. If someone can show something authoritative about it I'd appreciate it.

Some of the auto manufacturer's tried acid dipping factory built racecars in the sixties and ended up with steel parts that were full of pinholes and other problems (doors, fenders, hoods, bumpers) so they switched to stamping them out of aluminum or drilling the frames full of holes to lighten them. The price of a factory original 60's super stock car with aluminum parts can run six figures.
