Corrugated iron roof nightmare...Suggestions?
My wee stone cottage at the sea's edge on Skye (Scotland) has a corrugated iron roof which has caused me misery for years. A recent attempt to use a silicone paint on top of tar/bitumen which I couldn't clean off has compounded the rust problem. I thought that it might be possible to cover the exiting corrugated iron with some kind of plastic or fibreglass product so I could enjoy my summers rather than spending them on the roof! I would welcome any suggestions.
Many thanks,

Here are two responses from another forum on a similar question:
The material is called modified bitumen. Torching is one of three application methods. The others are installing it in hot asphalt and the adhesive applied system.
My preference is the adhesive system. The adhesive is a solvent that softens the back of the mod bit membrane so it adheres to the decking. It typically costs about 10% more, but you don't have the blistering that occurs with the hot asphalt or the risk of the torch method. Be sure to select a membrane that has a granule coated surface or apply a reflective coating to protect the membrane from UV wear

Another method is called a Carlisle Rubber Roof. It is a sheet of rubber and is a good solution if it can be properly glued to the existing metal roofing.
Hope this helps,
