Coating with Al a beryllium mirror covered with a thin 125microns optical layer of nickel
2006
We have to recoate a Berrylium mirror that is covered with a thin layer of nickel(125microns)
Our problems are the followings;
-first remove AL coating without removing Nickel(solutions concentration,duration of washing0)
-temperature of coating to avoid stress in Beryllium
- interference of nickel with magnetron field

Do you want to remove the aluminum only or is the nickel also damaged? Is the nickel conventional or electroless? Aluminum can be stripped by a caustic soda ⇦liquid caustic soda in bulk on Amazon [affil link] solution at room temperature without damage to nickel. Nickel requires nitric acid or other special chemicals to strip and beryllium could be attacked. Maybe you would like to contact CIO (Centro de Investigaciones en Optica) a non-profit organization at Leòn, Guanajuato, Mexico. Dr. Luis Alvarez is researching about nickel plating for tooling and lenses.
