How to bond PVDF sheets into a steel tank

We are doing a hard chrome plating line but subcontract made an error, bond PVDF sheet direct onto steel, n of course when temp heat-up all deform.. we need to repair it now, either to get Fibre backed PVDF sheets or glass back and apply to new FRP tank or can I find something with special backing to apply directly onto steel surface ? tank was made by sus304 alrdy any advise appreciated.

Hi Jeffrey,

The answer may well lie in getting PVDF sheets with a backing (glass or fibre) BECAUSE that backing would have been been applied, I think, with heat.

Mind you, I'd much, much prefer to use a dual laminate approach where there would not be such a big differential in temperature. ... and if your steel tank has nice square corners this presents more of a problem to address.

I'm guessing but would surmise that the heat backing approach with a fibre might well mean a reduction in the thermal stress whereas the extruded material might well have additional stresses.

Thanks. can you also point out how to apply dual laminate approach for present situation ... yes, Tanks were made with square corner... if no suitable solution, may have to make new FRP tanks which will affect budget.. estimated total area 40 M2, new PVDF sheet already costed U$ 10,000 really hope no more cost on three new tanks! thanks

Hi Jeffrey,

Why not the Olde Conventional approach and line the damn tanks with flexible PVC? Why go to the expensive PVDF?

Surely you know about that (but you state that you are a trader, um? Trader of wot?)

Yes, the thickness is much more than a swimming pool liner, yes, you add on a 6" or so swath around the air/liquid interface. Yes, you get an experienced guy to do it.

Surely your local (?) fin.com people in Lunnon can advise you whom to approach.

Straight frp tanks is a NO NO of the lst water ! Total YUCKS.

Far less expensive would be PVC:FRP dual laminate.
